The Climb
No, no, no – not again. Every day – or at least it feels that way – this time rolls around. And you know it’s not going to be easy.
If you’re honest, that’s an understatement. It’s a long haul.
Sometimes, it’s downright excruciating…between you and your child, you’re not even sure who feels that pain the most.
You love your child and want nothing but their happiness. Feeling helpless as you watch them, the struggle is almost more than you can stand.
The Goal
Reflect for a moment. What part of your child’s day do you dread most? What part of the struggle is most difficult for you both?
Now, close your eyes and try to imagine this: what would it look like, and how would it feel – if you didn’t dread that part at all… if you both looked forward to that part of the day?
What would that take? Is that remotely possible? YES!
Untangling the Knot
What does your child need? What do you, as a parent, need? What does your home life need?
These intertwined strands contain a world of possibility for becoming more effective and constructive as a parent – and for finding deep joy in the process. We will work side by side with you to address all three!
How can we best help your child?
Together, we’ll work to help you understand your child’s brain-based
abilities and struggles. We’ll identify what they already know and what
they’re learning.
This understanding alone can catalyze a powerful mindset change. It will also lead to more effective solutions.
As we continue our work, we’ll use the understanding as a map for how to challenge and support your child through whatever they’re facing.
We’ll develop firm methods – but also loving and appropriate – for your child’s development and related brain systems. And we will practice!
You will master those new methods.
How can we best support you?
You can’t be the parent you really want to be if you’re not taking care of yourself.
As we work to help your child, we’re also going to work to meet your needs by identifying areas of strength and confidence as well as areas of confusion and conflict. We’ll amplify the positive and sort through the not-so-positive to create parenting approaches that feel right to you.
We’ll also focus on self-care by attending to any wear and tear on your health and well-being. You’ll learn new, effective ways to restore and replenish yourself and get to a better place for tackling the difficult parts of your child’s day.
How can we improve your home life?
Then, we’ll step back and observe the big picture. How does your day run? What needs to happen – and when? How do the demands of your child’s school and your work impact your day? If you have other children, what do they need?
Together, we’ll discard habits and methods that no longer serve you and replace them with more strategic, effective ways to make your home run more smoothly and happily. Less stress. Less frustration. Less yelling.
We’ll create greater clarity through practical, workable routines your child can rely on and consistent rules they’re developmentally ready to follow.
And I’ll help you prepare for the inevitable pushback (from your child and other families) and quell even your own doubts. You’ll develop the confidence you need to stick to the plan – because it will be simple, fair, and ultimately conducive to harmony.
The Nuts and Bolts
Flexibility and practicality are key – we’ll do what makes the most sense for you and your family.
We can work face-to-face or online. We can involve your child directly, or you can roleplay with each other. We can use recorded video, too. And our methods can change as your needs change.
We’ll determine what’s best for you as we go along!
Your safety and peace of mind are always paramount, as well. Jennifer is vaccinated and happy to work with you to ensure adequate safety precautions against COVID.
